About
Northlodge is a small private eco campsite & lodge, established in 2008. It is set in the beautiful Welsh countryside on a smallholding, overlooking the Preseli Hills and ten minutes from a choice of Pembrokeshire beaches.
North Lodge has been developed to create a friendly welcoming site, we have also carried out steps to ensure that the site is gradually reducing its carbon footprint and our visitors will enjoy a low carbon holiday. We want our visitors to enjoy a relaxing break away from modern pressures, which is why we offer private spaces with a real opportunity to unwind. It’s so rewarding when people come and stay and tell us what a great time they’ve had exploring our beautiful area and staying at North Lodge.
This approach reflects the owners expertise and interests:
Martin has worked in farming for over 30 years, and had his own organic landscaping and gardening business for 20 years. He cares deeply for the countryside and its animals, has landscaped and planted the small holding to attract wildlife offering a haven for many birds, bats, butterflies, bees and lots of other plants and native species.
Jane has worked in the environmental field for over 25 years and is an energy and sustainability expert. She is a voluntary director for Grannell and Pembrokeshire Community Energy, who have developed wind turbines near Lampeter and Tenby. Her current work is for YnNi Teg who develop renewable energy projects across Wales for the society and for other community groups. She is an energy engineer who has worked in the public, private and community sector.
On the smallholding as well as lots of planting and introducing wild areas, we have kept the use of electricity as low as possible, any electricity used is on a green energy tariff, we have solar lighting for campers and cabins, we have a mix of long and short grass for the ecology, we provide recycling and composting facilities. We do not allow cars on to the camping field, instead we provide campers with wheelbarrows for their gear, this has been welcomed as it means on the field you can be safe and it is also quieter. We have several ways of water saving. We also have our own growing plot and polytunnel. Our cabins have been developed using locally sourced materials or upcycling wherever possible, looking to provide comfortable and friendly spaces, developing any facilities with low carbon in mind whilst providing for our visitors needs.
This is an accredited site under Green Keys which is a tourism scheme, we have been members for many years and each year we assess our energy, water and waste uses as part of the membership.
AS Seen on TV: A few years ago we had a visit from ITV Wales who were promoting ‘green businesses’ in Pembrokeshire. Also filmed by Find it, Fix It, Flog It, we kept one of the upcycled items, see Rumenco’s shower box with mirror… Also randomly, seen on Japanese popular TV show.
We do offer sustainability courses, light introductions/chats on ‘living off grid’ and ‘Tractor fun’.
Capable Volunteers/Woofers welcome to come for long or short working stays, help in the garden, polytunnel, greenhouse, or on the campsite, glamping units etc… We have some regulars who come and enjoy a short stay whilst helping out so it works for both of us.
